Welcome to the cyberspace spotlight, Kaspars Daugavins.

For a guy who has scored exactly zero goals in 17 games this season, the Senators fourth line winger was trending all over the hockey world late Monday night and early Tuesday morning for his unique – and ultimately failed – shootout attempt during the Senators’ 3-2 shootout loss to the Boston Bruins.

Ottawa Senators defenceman Patrick Wiercioch laughed when asked if he put a bug in the ear of general manager Bryan Murray before the December, 2011 trade which brought centre Kyle Turris to the organization.

“Oh, yeah, I’ll take credit for that one,” Wiercioch said Tuesday, basking in the glow of a quick start to the NHL season for himself, Turris and the team. “You can let Bryan know.”
