At this point, it appears the Senators’ No. 1 goaltender, Craig Anderson, will still be on the sidelines Saturday in the latest chapter of the Battle of Ontario against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Following the appearance of goaltender Craig Anderson and defenceman Jared Cowen at Ottawa Senators practice Wednesday, you half expected to see centre Jason Spezza, left winger Milan Michalek and defenceman Erik Karlsson step out of the training room to take part in the workout.
Apparently, nobody bothered to tell the Ottawa Senators that the three goaltending system isn’t supposed to work.
In another example of just how well Ottawa Senators back-up goaltenders Ben Bishop and Robin Lehner have filled in for injured netminder Craig Anderson, captain Daniel Alfredsson wasn’t even aware that Anderson returned to practice Monday morning.
As expected, Ben Bishop will replace Robin Lehner in the Ottawa Senators net Monday against the New Jersey Devils, but the Senators will make no other changes.
A point saved is a point earned.
Craig Anderson is unbeatable since returning from his sprained right ankle. “I wanted to get in there and see if I still had it and I stopped all seven shots I saw,” the Ottawa Senators’ No. 1 goaltender said, with a laugh, after making a brief appearance at the club’s practice here Friday.
