After previously playing in the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets, who drafted him 168th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Marc Methot was traded to the Ottawa Senators for forward Nick Foligno.

Reportedly on multiple occasions the Ottawa Senators had attempted to acquire the defenceman during the 2011–12 season. Born in  Ottawa, Methot is noted as a strong defensive defenceman who plays a sound, stay-at-home game.

During the 2012-13 NHL lockout Methot and a number of Ottawa Senators and other NHL players participated in the  Northern Lights Dream Tour, which included three exhibition games in Yellowknife, Inuvik, and Whitehorse.

The 27 year old Methot, who makes his home in the Mooney’s Bay area of Ottawa, brings with him 6 years NHL experience and should be a stalwart on the blue line with the Senators this year.
