Trade to Phoenix surprises Rundblad
David Rundblad won’t be meeting an entirely new team in Phoenix. He already knows defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson well. The two have played together on several national teams.
That’s not to say the trade didn’t catch him by surprise. It did.
“Well, of course, kind of like a shock to me; I was surprised,” Rundblad told the Arizona Republic.
“I didn’t know anything about it, so surprising, but now after a while, I know I can’t do anything about it, so I’ll just go there and play as good as I can and hopefully I get some ice time.
“Right now, it’s a lot of feelings and emotions, it’s kind of weird. There’s a lot of things to think of right now. I already talked to Oliver Ekman-Larsson a little bit, and he told me it’s a great town, nice teammates, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Another bad Murray trade – no wonder Phoenix jumped at this one. I would’t have made the trade player for player. but to also give up a second rounder! We’re getting a hot shot whiner with an inflated ego who has done nothing in the NHL. As far as I know there were no problems with Rundblad so don’t understand why Murray traded draft picks to get him from St. Louis only to give him away.
But to say there were no problems with Rundblad is inaccurate. He made it very clear he would NOT play in the AHL and return to Sweden if that was the only option there was. So Basically that made him a bit of a difficult player to develop. I would’ve loved to see him in Ottawa longer, but we needed that second line center. Now maybe Turris will catch fire and do something with his career.
However, I would’ve loved to see Murray try and trade Rundblad to Edmonton and see what he could get out of them. They need young quality defensemen there.
If they would’ve dealt with Edmonton, I’d really have really liked that Paajarvi kid coming the other way… Alfie isn’t getting any younger and he makes those he plays with better also!
I like to see teams take a chance on potential stars. Rundblad is a good player but his defense is lacking at this time. With Gonchar returning, it will improve the “D” and maybe Turris will respond to the great Sens fans. I think Murray is feeling like most Sens fans right now….this overhaul is occurring sooner than anyone expected. Let’s go out and make a playoff run.
GO SEN GO!
I was concerned with the draft pick thrown in to make the trade happen but the Sens were in a tough spot. When all the D-Men are back Rundblad was #8 and he wasn’t going to accept going to the AHL. They were in a tough position.

Hey, I am not impressed with the trade either.
