Sylvain St-Laurent of Le Droit spoke with Ottawa Senators goaltending prospect Robin Lehner recently and published this story today (*note: it’s in French).
In some ways Lehner has changed, in some ways he’s still the same. Lehner is learning how to say the right things as he prepares for his ascension to Ottawa next season (he’s due to start in Bingo this campaign), including how he must continue to work hard and wait patiently for his opportunities.
That’s a far cry from the charming rhetoric he gave me back in March, when he said he was looking forward to hunting Craig Anderson (‘the bigger the game, the bigger the trophy’).
In his latest chat, Lehner reveals Tim Murray approached him prior to his first Binghamton Senators playoff game and said something to the effect of “now we’ll see if you have the makings of a star.”
Lehner responded in a big way, obviously, leading the B-Sens to the Calder Cup championship and picked up an MVP award along the way.
Maybe that’s why he still maintains he’d learn more moving right up to the NHL right away, rather than riding the bus for another season.
“The world doesn’t know the real Robin Lehner yet,” he said, letting that prodigious confidence shine through again
