Spezza questionable for season-opener

The Ottawa Senators may be without star centre Jason Spezza when they play their first game of the season against the Buffalo Sabres Friday night.

The Ottawa Senators may be without star centre Jason Spezza when they play their first game of the season against the Buffalo Sabres Friday night.

Spezza missed practice Thursday and coach Cory Clouston said the team wouldn’t rush him back for one game and risk him missing four or five more as a result. He will be a game-time decision.

Spezza’s absence forced Clouston to shake up his top two lines. Mike Fisher centred the No. 1 trio with Nick Foligno and Daniel Alfredsson, while Peter Regin appeared between Alex Kovalev and Milan Michalek.
