So-so goalie show

First, the good news for Ottawa Senators fans looking at the club’s always bizarre goaltending situation.

First, the good news for Ottawa Senators fans looking at the club’s always bizarre goaltending situation.

Robin Lehner was outstanding in Sweden’s 2-0 shutout of Russia at the world junior championships Tuesday, stopping 30 shots. The one lasting impression? Lehner fills the net, even when he’s in a butterfly. “You can’t teach big,” said goaltending coach Rick Wamsley.

Flip the coin on Tuesday, however, and you see the bad side. Mike Brodeur was in net for the Binghamton Senators during a 6-1 loss to the Hershey Bears. Brodeur, however, was recalled once again by the big-league Senators Wednesday morning, in order to back-up Brian Elliott for Wednesday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

With Pascal Leclaire again unready to continuing playing due to his lower body injury, Brodeur figures to stick with the team for Friday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and through Saturday’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

I will have bigger story on the goaltending situation on ottawacitizen.com before the game against Carolina.
