Sergei Gonchar hears the boo birds

During the home opener on Tuesday, Senator defenceman Sergei Gonchar was booed almost as loudly and as often as was Dany Heatley.
It that keeps up for all this season and next, through the end of Gonchar’s contract here, it’s certain to become wearing.
It’s not fun, said MacLean, who was also jeered during his days as a player. But the coach had no issue with the booing.
“I’ve been booed, so it’s something that you. . . I think it’s a motivator,” he said.
“If your fans are unhappy with how you play, they should express that they’re unhappy with how you play.
“Conversely, if you play better, they should appreciate that you play better and to me, it’s just a signal that you need to be better.”
MacLean said his three veteran defencemen – Gonchar, Filip Kuba, and Chris Phillips – did play better against the Wild.
But they are being counted on to be much, much better.
