Senators to play eight preseason games

Three home contests, two at neutral sites on schedule

The Ottawa Senators announced Thursday an eight-game preseason schedule for September.

The Senators will play three contests at Canadian Tire Centre, three in other National Hockey League cities and two others at Saskatoon and Barrie, Ont.

The schedule starts Sept. 15 at Winnipeg against the Jets, with the first home preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sept. 19.

The Senators will also play at home against the Montreal Canadiens on Sept. 25 and against the New York Islanders on Sept. 29. The Islanders game is one of two the teams will play against each other that day, using split squads, with the other contest at Barrie.

The NHL’s 2013-14 regular-season schedule has yet to be released, although the league has announced that the Senators will play a Heritage Classic against the Vancouver Canucks at B.C. Place Stadium on March 2. That suggests the Senators will be making a western road trip immediately following the expected break for the Sochi Winter Olympic Games.

The participation of NHL players in the Olympics has not yet been confirmed, but an announcement is expected soon.
