Senators sign minor league defenceman Eckford

The Ottawa Senators made another depth move on Tuesday, signing 26-year-old defenceman Tyler Eckford to a two-year, two-way contract.

Eckford, who is expected to play with the American Hockey League’s Binghamton Senators next season, scored 10 goals and 15 assists in 75 games with the AHL’s Portland Pirates last season.

Originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils (seventh round, 217th overall in 2004), Eckford has played seven NHL games with the Devils, registering one assist.

I believe Rob Murphy played for the Send in the early days at the Civic Centre.
