Senators set lineup for Thursday series opener against Rangers

NEW YORK — Bobby Butler, Zenon Konopka, Rob Klinkhammer and Matt Carkner will sit Thursday night as the Ottawa Senators begin their first-round playoff series against the New York Rangers.

The Senators, seeded No. 8 in the Eastern Conference, will be trying to upset the No. 1-seeded Rangers.

But Rangers coach John Tortorella said seedings don’t mean a thing in the playoffs.

It’s so hard to make the playoffs, he said, that once you make them, “you’re going to be playing a good team.”

As usual, Craig Anderson will be in goal for the Senators and Henrik Lundqvist will be in net for the Rangers.

At the morning skate in New York, Ottawa’s lines looked like this:

■ Colin Greening-Jason Spezza-Milan Michalek;
■ Nick Foligno-Kyle Turris-Daniel Alfredsson;
■ Zack Smith-Jesse Winchester-Chris Neil;
■ Erik Condra-Jim O’Brien-Kaspars Daugavins.
On defence, Erik Karlsson was paired with Filip Kuba, Sergei Gonchar with Jared Cowen and Chris Phillips with Matt Gilroy.
