Senators recall Butler for game against Rangers

The Ottawa Senators are hoping promising young forward Bobby Butler can boost their flagging offence against the New York Rangers.

The Ottawa Senators are hoping promising young forward Bobby Butler can boost their flagging offence against the New York Rangers.

Butler has 15 goals in 25 games for AHL Binghamton this season, while the big club is desperate for production. The Senators have just 17 goals in their last 12 games and set a new franchise record for most time without a goal at home in Saturday night’s shutout loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

Predictably, the Senators’ inability to put the puck in the net has resulted in a lengthy slump that could cost them a playoff spot. They’re just 2-7-1 in their last 10 games.

Can Butler help turn things around? It’s a lot to ask of a 23-year-old who has two games of NHL experience, but Ottawa is getting desperate. After facing the Rangers’ top tender, Henrik Lundqvist, Sunday afternoon, the team travels to Montreal to take on red-hot Carey Price and the Canadiens.
