Edmonton Oilers (1-6-1) at Ottawa Senators (3-2-2)

James Gordon (@SensReporter), Citizen Sports Editor

Senators 2, Oilers 3 (OT)
Call me crazy, but this feels like a huge trap game to me. Of course, this could also be the mauling that finally forces change in the Edmonton net. So the moral of the story is: Put your money in a nice high-interest savings account, kids.

Senators 5, Oilers 3
If the Oilers don’t believe in their goaltending and defence, why would we? Still, trading chances with the young Oiler guns could be fatal.

The biggest question is why is Scanlan wasting his prediction skills on this panel — and not in Vegas where he could actually be making some money.

Ottawa wins and it leaves Craig MacTavish asking, “Whoa,  teams can draft and develop talent that isn’t drafted in the top ten of the first round?”

Senators 6, Oilers 2
Averaging 42 shots against per game, the Sens are playing with fire, but goaltending is everything here. Ottawa has. Edmonton does not.

Although the Senators won’t benefit from playing against Martin Brodeur today, Devan Dubnyk and his sparkling 4.91 GAA might be even better for Ottawa. The team still has a lot of areas to improve upon, but thankfully they’ve got a day of practice to work on things. They’ll want these two points in the bank, too, considering the very tough stretch of games that will come right after.

This should be the game Ottawa puts it all together defensively but that early start throws me a little, as do the Oilers who are due to surprise a team soon. I still can’t see them winning but they’ll put a scare into the Senators.
