Senators prediction panel: Game 89

The Ottawa Senators take on the New York Rangers in Game 7 of their quarterfinal series. Which team will come out on top? Our prediction panel weighs in.

Ottawa Senators (3-3) at New York Rangers (3-3)

James Gordon, Citizen Sports Editor

Senators 1, Rangers 2 (3OT)
Everyone knew the 1-8 match-up was a bit misleading in this series, given the Senators’ success against the Rangers during the regular season. Almost every game has been close, and I think this one will be too. I’ll pick the Rangers to win this coin flip after about five hours of play.

Senators 2, Rangers 3
Sens rarely win when I pick them, so in the interest of covering Round 2 hockey, I’ll go the other way. My real prediction is that the pride of Alfredsson and Spezza will show through after getting benched for part of Game 6.
Record: 44-44
Exact scores predicted: 3

Ian Mendes, Sportnet.ca Senators reporter and blogger

Senators 1, Rangers 2
I want to make this VERY clear: I’m only picking the Rangers in this panel because if they win, I will be crowned champion. In all honesty, I believe the Sens will finally win a Game 7. But for the purposes of this panel — and to make myself even more likeable to Steve Lloyd — I’m choosing the Rangers.

Graeme Nichols, writer/editor, The Sixth Sens blog and podcast, defending prediction panel champion

Senators 3, Rangers 0
Did Mark Messier make some bold prediction that the Rangers were going to win the series before game six? No? Good, that means I’m comfortable taking the Sens – a team that I’m sure will relish the extra day off between games to give themselves a chance to clear their heads and hopefully kill some momentum.
Record: 48-39
Exact scores predicted: 3

Steve Lloyd, host, Healthy Scratches on Team 1200

Senators 3, Rangers 0 (empty-net goal)
I took Rangers in 7 before this thing started but I’m taking Ottawa tonight. Meaning, I’m full of (expletive deleted), but at least I admit it (cough-Mendes-cough). The Sens have shown an amazing ability to bounce back from adversity. With a guilty Daniel Alfredsson and Jason Spezza the resilient Sens do it again.
Record: 48-39
Exact scores predicted: 2

Peter Raaymakers, writer/editor, Silver Seven Sens blog

Senators 4, Rangers 2
Whatever. Like any Game 7, this is a toss-up, and I went with my heart.
Record: 48-38
Exact scores predicted: 4

Russell, host, SensUnderground podcast

Senators 3, Rangers 2
It all comes down to this — Game 7. The Sens have shown some nasty grit all year when faced with adversity and I can’t turn my back on them now. This pick may cost me the pool title but my allegiance to my team wins out here. GO SENS GO!!!
Record: 51-36
Exact scores predicted: 2

Jeremy Milks, writer/editor, Black Aces blog

Senators 3, Rangers 2
It’s time for Ottawa to win a Game 7, because this is getting ridiculous. The Senators organization is 0-4 in the Big One and the hockey gods are rarely this cruel. But feel free to pray.
Record: 48-38
Exact scores predicted: 3
