Columbus Blue Jackets (0-6-1) at Ottawa Senators (2-5-0)

For the second straight game, the Senators are playing a bad team coming off a road loss the night before. They grounded the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday night and will probably sting the Blue Jackets after Columbus fell 5-2 in Detroit on Friday.

The godforsaken Blue Jackets can’t catch a break, stumbling into tough hockey towns with several players injured and out of the lineup. Been a while since anyone rated Ottawa a tough hockey town but the Senators have every opportunity to break out a two game winning streak.

I can’t believe I got the last game right. Let’s see if I can get two in a row.

With all of the intrigue surrounding the organization’s decision to keep or return Mika Zibanejad to Sweden, it’d only be fitting for the Senators to win their second consecutive game.

For as bad as it’s been in Ottawa to start the season, the Sens are coming off a solid game, and more importantly, a win. They now face without a doubt the team that has been the worst in the league so far this season, and the Jackets had to play in Detroit last night.

Tough game to call…neither team has been good, but the Blue Jackets have a better team on paper and seem like the kind of group waiting for someone like Ottawa to come along and shock them out of their current funk. But maybe Ottawa’s not interested in resuscitating the Jackets, but instead will build on their win against the Jets last week. I’ll err on the side of homerism, and pick the Sens in a nail-biter.

You have to wonder just how doomed the Jackets will feel if they lose this one. They already booked the playoffs when they signed Jeff Carter but now they’re in full Lord of the Flies mode. The Sens should be loose and ready to start sniping a few after a strong win against the Jets. Zibanejad’s going to roof one tonight.
