Ottawa Senators (29-37-10) at Tampa Bay Lightning (40-24-11)

Well, I’ve already taken the Lightning over the Senators twice in March, so I may as well go for the hat trick. Ottawa did win both those games, but doesn’t that mean playoff-bound Tampa is overdue to beat the last-place Sens?

I propose a new rule. If a playoff-bound team — hello, Tampa Bay — loses three games in a row to the last place team in the conference, that playoff team forfeits its spot. Earn it, people! Even without this rule, the Lightning should be motivated to finally beat the Senators, if motivation means anything in these topsy-turvy games.

The Lightning have a chance to clinch a post-season berth tonight in Tampa. After blowing a two-goal lead in their last meeting, Guy Boucher is not going to let his team take the Sens lightly tonight.
Record: 38-38
Exact scores predicted: 3

Looking at Tampa Bay’s record, their position in the standings seems inflated because they’re the only Eastern Conference playoff team that has a negative goal differential. Ottawa’s already beat them twice this month, why not make it a hat-trick?
Record: 44-31
Exact scores predicted: 4

I have to go with the sens again. They’ve done well against Tampa lately and these pups just don’t believe in tank army. This panel race has become the most competitive part of the season.

Three wrong predictions in a row…this late-season plunge is going to hurt me in the prediction panel as much as the Senators’ late-season surge is hurting their draft position. Nevertheless, I’ll go out on a limb and predict the Senators play their best against the Lightning, and Tampa responds by playing down to Ottawa’s current place in the standings, rather than their recent performance. Ottawa’s played well against top teams in the league, so I see it continuing (especially if Daniel Alfredsson makes his heroic return to the lineup).
Record: 41-29
Exact scores predicted: 3

Why do the Bolts have so much trouble with the Sens lately? Why does Nickelback sell millions of records? These are questions nobody can answer. So I’ll just go with the flow here and see what happens.
Record: 42-32
Exact scores predicted: 3
