The Ottawa Senators host the Winnipeg Jets at Scotiabank Place. Which team will come out on top? Our prediction panel weighs in.

Winnipeg Jets (1-3-1) at Ottawa Senators (1-5-0)

Well, I was due to pick a Senators win at some point, and it just happens to come against the team I grew up worshiping. Kind of. Actually, this Jets squad is so far removed from the one that left the ‘Peg 15 years ago, the only thing really tying them together are the city and the name. There is no Selanne, Zhamnov, Tkachuk, Housley, or pre-DUI Khabibulin in this group, which is why I like Ottawa at home. Winnipeg’s late game in Toronto helps.

And so the great basement battle begins. The Sens might not be catching on yet to this quest for last, so I’m taking them here to beat a tired Jets team.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me five times in the span on two weeks — and I must be an idiot.

Picking the winner of this game is like trying to decide what smells worse — unwashed hockey equipment or rancid milk. Decisions. Decisions. Alright, I’ll cross my fingers that the cure for a heavily penalized Senators team that is struggling to kill penalties will be a hapless Winnipeg power play that entered Wednesday night’s game against Toronto operating at a zero-percent success rate. On a sad note, the next Senators goal will mean that Rob Gaudreau’s name will be stricken from the record book as the last Senators player to score a goal against the Jets in Ottawa. (Sigh)

4-2 Sens because that’s what I said last game. Why ruin a good thing of being dead wrong? Reverse psychology. If you want a real reason, the Jets are easily the worst team the Sens have faced this season and they played last night in Toronto.
Record: 3-3

Tricky game to predict right here. Neither team has looked good so far, and both have one win to their credit. Still, the Jets will be on the latter half of a back-to-back series in Ontario, and the Sens are coming off two ridiculous blowouts. Ottawa should (I emphasize should) come out guns a-blazing in this one, but this team is so inconsistent that a 5-0 loss is as likely as a 3-1 win.

This game could very well be labelled, “Facin’ off for Yakupov”. We should expect many more games like the Philly beat down so we can only hope that the Sens make the most of these opportunities against the other have- nots. Plus, there should be a certain amount of shame in their game tonight. I’m looking for a bounce back.
Record: 4-2

If we follow the early pattern, the Sens probably won’t get bulldozed tonight, which gives them a slight chance. Call me a romantic fool, but I think they gut one out against a pretty bad Jets team.

I was going to pick the Jets simply because the Sens are notorious for colossal failures after a players only meeting, and the old guard leading the meeting hasn’t changed. But now I’m doubly sure since Graeme’s statement about Rob Gaudreau being stricken from the record books will be a jinx & almost ensures a Jets shut-out victory.
    Jets 2 Sens 0

6-4 Ottawa. Turnovers galore, defenses that cannot stop anyone. Sens come out ahead by virtue of slightly better offensive weapons. Zibanejad gets his first goal.

    4-2 Jets.
Sens players know they are in a country club atmosphere with no acccountability and will try to get MacLean fired. Jets are pumped after their near win last night, have tons of young talent (Burmistov, Sheiffle) and are just overall better organized.

Four point game, lose this and closer to FAIL FOR NAIL.

The Jets had the Leafs scrambling for two periods last night. If they come out flying like that against the Sens, it will be no contest. Jets 4 – 1

The Jets playing last night might tip it towards the Sens, but I’m going with the Jets because they seem to be getting some offense going. Watched them many times in the old Winnipeg Arena, and looking forward to seeing the young team tonight.

Why, the Jets of course. 3-2, with the Senators final goal coming in the last minute of the game when Alfredson banks a goal off the left skate of Buffy the big vamp. A great last minute effort, but not enough.

Oh yeah, and the winning ticket in tomorrow’s lottery is….oh hell, there’s the phone.

I would have to say I predict the Jets to take it 3-1 with an empty net goal from Captain Ladd.
