Ottawa Senators (24-34-9) at Tampa Bay Lightning (38-21-8)

The Senators picked up Curtis McElhinney on waivers from Tampa Bay, so does that mean he’ll get the start against a team that didn’t give him a single game in the net after trading for him? I’m thinking yes, which is why this is an easy pick.

Let’s try the home team to break up the hot streak.
Record: 39-28

Teddy Purcell vs. Colin Greening. I think our ratings will be just fine in Newfoundland.
Record: 33-34
Exact scores predicted: 2

On Twitter I was joking that if the Senators keep winning games and Eugene Melnyk wants that lottery pick, he might have to start revoking the team’s privileges like he’s Rachel Phelps from the movie Major League. He might not take away the team’s hot water or change the plane (although he could in light of that Air Canada letter to the NHL) but the Senators giving Curtis McElhinney the nod is a start.

This tank job is officially broken and the young guys are wrecking our run to the bottom! That said, I would expect that McElhinney will get his first start in net for the Sens and Tampa will catch Ottawa a little tired. This smells like a dose of reality.
Record: 41-25
Exact scores predicted: 2

Peter Raaymakers, writer/editor, Silver Seven Sens blog

Senators 2, Lightning 3
Tampa Bay is in a dogfight with the Washington Capitals for tops in the Southeast Division, and they can’t afford to lose a game to the worst team in the Eastern Conference. The Senators might have something to say about that, but Tampa’s got the skill to win this game.
Record: 40-25
Exact scores predicted: 3

These aren’t the Florida Panthers. Stamkos and company should get the job done here, but at least the Senators can enjoy the weather while we’re all knee deep in slush.
Record: 40-25
Exact scores predicted: 3
