New York Rangers (33-29-4) at Ottawa Senators (22-33-9)

The Thrashers didn’t really have a realistic shot of making the playoffs. The Rangers have a precarious hold on the last postseason spot, however, and are playing for their lives every night. They should be able to pull off a win here.

I’m just upset that one of my favorite interviews – Martin Biron – won’t be on this trip for the Rangers. So just for that, I’m taking Ottawa in this game. How’s that for logic?

In light of making this prediction on Wednesday, I have a hankering that Ottawa will likely split their games against the Thrashers and Rangers this week. However, I’m vying for the prediction panel lead so I don’t want to screw up the order of the wins and losses. Since I picked Ottawa to lose against Atlanta, I’ll pick them to lose to the Rangers as well, just to cover myself and hopefully ensure that I get at least one prediction right. With Ottawa set to play the Rangers in back-to-back nights, I’ll also assume that Curtis McElhinney will get an opportunity to start against the Rangers.

But the Rangers will be just a little better offensively.

Although they’re always struggling to get enough offence to support Henrik Lundqvist, he still gets the Rangers more wins than losses. I think we’ll probably see a low-scoring affair, with New York coming out on top.

Call me crazy but I like the Rangers this year. I think they’ll hold onto that playoff spot if they can start playing better at home. Tonight will be a step in that direction. This could be a chippy game as well if the Sens young guys haven’t learned to ignore Sean Avery yet like most of the league.
