Washington Capitals (29-25-5) at Ottawa Senators (31-22-8)

Everything points towards a Senators win, including Ottawa’s Monday shellacking of the Islanders 6-0 and Washington’s embarrassing 5-0 outing against Carolina. And that’s why I’m using the Costanza Method and taking the Caps. Plus, if they don’t come out flying after their owner called them out for losing to one of the worst teams in the league, they may as well start this thing over from scratch. I think they have enough pride to come through here.

Sens hot, Caps a mess. Will form hold?

Both teams are coming off lopsided shutout games; the Sens won theirs, while the Caps were blown out. Ottawa hasn’t beaten Washington in three tries this season, but that should change on Wednesday.

Despite the Capitals coming out with one of their worst games against the Hurricanes, the team just hasn’t played well enough under Dale Hunter to make me believe that they will bounce back versus Ottawa. Between Backstrom on the mend, a rusty Mike Green and the fact that the Caps are averaging six less shots per game since Hunter arrived, I don’t think they’re well positioned to beat a streaking Sens squad.

The Sens are rolling again, full of confidence. The Caps? WTF is up with the Caps!? I guess coaching wasn’t the issue, but rather the inability of key players to show up like key players.

HUGE game. The Sens can make a statement with a win, while the Caps can inch closer to third in the Eastern Conference. In the end, Ottawa’s hot shooters get the job done.

The Sens are in a zone and the Caps are simply falling apart. Spezza is the dominant force and Ovechkin is a non-factor most nights. Andy has two shutouts in three games. What’s not to like about Ottawa’s chances here?

The Caps will be better than they were against the Canes, but it won’t be enough. Nobody can figure out what’s wrong with Ovie and the Caps. I won’t bother trying.
