Ottawa Senators (20-31-9) at Buffalo Sabres (28-25-6)

It’s been a nice little run for the Senators, but now they’re facing a decent team with a great goaltender. Craig Anderson can’t score goals too and, while Ottawa surprisingly put up five against the Florida Panthers on Wednesday, that felt more like an anomaly than actual, long-term progress. But they could surprise me.

Senators due to drop one due to mass depression over Kovalev departure. Ha.

I really like the way the Sens have played in their last two games. But the Sabres are a team in the hunt for the final playoff spot and they need these two points badly.

Even though there’s some history between Clouston and Svatos, I’m not a believer in the latter’s ability to put up points when Bobby Butler cools off. May this Buffalo win bring tears of joy to Terry Pegula’s eyes.

Okay, maybe they can score from time to time. I stand corrected. This game is a toss up. the Sens are playing with confidence, the young guys don’t know any better and Anderson is looking great. But, we haven’t seen them play a good team yet with this new line up. Buffalo isn’t great but they will be a tougher challenge. Let’s go with the Sens in a squeaker. I owe it to them after picking them to lose all year.

The beat goes on. The Sabres are still fighting for their playoff lives, and won’t be easy to knock-off, but it seems like Craig Anderson and the young players who’ve joined the Ottawa squad are rejuvenating the team. With a reasonable goaltender backing the team up, Senators skaters aren’t always clenching their sticks afraid to make mistakes, and Clouston’s finally able to fully implement his system without having to worry about protecting the netminder. Ottawa won’t win out the season or anything, but I think they’ll have a pretty good run to finish the year.

The young Sens are feeling good about themselves lately, but so are the Sabres with their new owner who’s commited to building a winner. The new energy of the Senators won’t be enough to stop a Buffalo team fighting desperately for a playoff spot. Should be a good one.
