I wasn’t planning on taking the Senators before they shipped their No. 2 centre to Nashville. This is the fourth game of a four-game road trip, so they can’t be feeling all that energetic either.

Tempted to take Edmonton to complete Sens’ perfect road trip, but even a bad team is due to win once in a while.

How the Sens respond to the loss of Mike Fisher will be interesting to watch. Fortunately for them, the first two games are against struggling teams in Edmonton and the Islanders. The Sens have only won a single game this calendar year. I boldly predict they will double that total at Rexall Place on Saturday afternoon.

Losers of 17 of past 18 games, is there a justified reason for picking the Sens to win this one?

Ahhhh yes, the greatest tank battle of them all, Sens vs. Edmonton, but with a new wrinkle. How do the boys react to the first big re-build move and Life after Mike? Do they ramp it up for pride or do they throw themselves under the tank’s tracks? I’m going to bet that maybe they can eke out a close win in this Collapse of the Titans.

Last season, an 11-game winning streak powered the Senators into the playoffs. This season, an 11-game losing streak sold the team and fans that a rebuild was necessary. The streak won’t go longer than 11, though; it would spoil the bizarro-symmetry.

Maybe the heart has already been ripped out of this team, but it was stamped official with the Fisher trade on Thursday. They can ask the Oilers for advice on how to deal with star players leaving. I’m not sure where their heads are right now, so I’ll go against the Sens and take the home team in the “Toilet Bowl” match.
