Buffalo Sabres (22-21-5) at Ottawa Senators (17-25-7)

I really felt like the Senators were going to break through and win their last outing against the Habs. I don’t think I could have been more wrong. Inexplicably, I’m going to pick them again. With the weight on uncertainty off of everyone’s shoulders, the players, coaches and manager can get back to focusing on hockey.

I probably need psychoanalysis – especially after this past weekend – but I think the Sens will “shock the world” (Ali) by winning a game at home over the Sabres.

Ryan Miller is starting to heat up. That’s bad news for the Sens offense.

This is a tossup game for me. On one hand, the Buffalo Sabres are six points out of the eighth playoff seed and come into town fighting for their playoff lives. On the other hand, it will be interesting to see how the Senators
players respond to news that Murray and Clouston will be sticking around for the remainder of the season. I’ll give the Sens the benefit of the doubt because they have had success against Buffalo and are due for a win.

Against all logic and reason, I’m gonna take a flyer here and go with the Sens. Maybe, just maybe, they will have a little something extra now that they know where things stand. But that’s betting our goaltending can outplay Miller, tall order, regardless of what history says. But they have to win sometime, don’t they?

Maybe the vote of confidence for Murray and Clouston for this season lets the players’ minds ease a little bit, and they play a little better? I’m not saying the Senators should win, but I do think at some point they’re going to. Losing out the season seems unlikely.

I’m going to take Eugene Melnyk’s lead here and “stand pat.” In fact, he has just made these decisions quite easy going forward. The Sens are going to lose because they don’t care anymore if they lose. Inspiring stuff.
