The Senators have to be due for a correction soon…don’t they? Even if it’s just a one-game bump, I can’t see them knocking off a legitimate Stanley Cup contender like the Sharks on home ice.

First game of this trip might be the toughest, due to travel.

My body clock is way off here in San Jose — and I didn’t even play two hockey games in two nights like the Sens just did. I’m thinking the jet lag kicks in at the worst possible time on Thursday.

Despite winning three of the past four games, the Senators just haven’t been playing well enough for me to be confident in picking them to win against one of the better Western Conference teams. Of course by picking the Sharks, this means that Craig Anderson will inevitably steal another one for the good guys.

I was all ready to go Sharks here with Sens not having an extra day to adjust to the time zone change. However, my partner Jason York informed me the first game is the easiest to play when going west. So, this pick’s on him.

Craig Anderson’s been playing so much lately that the bottom’s got to fall out one of these games. The Sens aren’t playing with the same intensity as they had during the meat of their winning streak, and can’t afford to continue counting on comebacks to win games–at least not against teams like the San Jose Sharks. Expect this to be a (perhaps necessary) reality check for the Sens.

As awesome as this run has been, you have to feel the Sens have been tempting fate just a little too much lately with so many shots allowed. Andy has been steeling them games but I’m betting Auld gets this start. They’ll have to start these western games stronger and tighten up defensively. You can only walk that razor’s edge so long.

Tough one for Ottawa. They’ve already played so many games in January that it’s going to catch up real quick. The Sharks are cruising along and should take this one at home.
