Calgary Flames (18-20-5) at Ottawa Senators (17-21-6)

The Senators finally looked like they had some energy and enthusiasm against the Islanders, and I think that will carry over at home against the struggling Flames. Robin Lehner wasn’t great, but he won. Corey Locke didn’t dominate, but he did pick up his first NHL point. The difference between guys like that and some of the crusty veterans is they don’t realize or care how deep of a hole this team is in. They just want to keep playing in the NHL and will do anything they can to stay.

I’ll try the western Canadian disaster over the eastern Canadian disaster. No special reason. And no real interest in watching, but I will, because I’m paid to watch.

Yes, it was only a win over the Islanders, but the Sens finally showed some scoring finish on Thursday night. Perhaps they were sparked by a new goaltender. Whatever the case, there is reason to believe they can carry the momentum into a game against another struggling team.

When asked which goaltender he’ll start against Ottawa, Brent Sutter responded with a big smile on his face and said, “I’ll decide in the morning”. If a Sutter has reason to smile these days, it doesn’t bode well for Ottawa.

After failing miserably is their attempt to lose to the Isles, I’ll even go with them again to blow another chance at a better draft pick. They can’t even suck right!

I can’t believe I’m actually predicting two Ottawa Senators wins in a row, but the Calgary Flames are like Ottawa West, but in worse shape long-term. Got to think this is one of few matchups that actually favours the Senators, even if it is in a back-to-back situation.
