Ottawa Senators (22-15-6) at Pittsburgh Penguins (21-15-4)

The Penguins have been decimated by injury, but occasionally teams get a little bump from replacement players who want desperately to stick around with the big club (reality usually sets in shortly thereafter). This feels like a bit of a trap game, especially for a young team like the Senators. Even without their top stars, the Penguins still have arguably the best coach in the league behind the bench — I think he can adapt enough to keep his team afloat.

One team is hot, the other is hurt. Still, the Senators would do well not to take the ‘Wilkes-Barre Penguins’ lightly.

This is a match-up of two teams headed in opposite directions right now. Even the most cynical hockey fan has to feel some sympathy for the devastating injuries the Penguins have suffered in recent weeks. They still have Malkin, Fleury and one of the best coaches in the game, but it’s hard to not pick the red-hot Sens in this one.

Pittsburgh’s so decimated with injuries their roster resembles something that Scott Howson put together.

The Sens are hot and injuries have to catch up with Pens right? Bylsma’s done a masterful job in having his team compete at a high level,  but adding Staal and Neal to IR might be too much to overcome.

The Penguins have lost four in a row, and are losing players to injury left, right, and centre. The team’s historically been able to find ways to win despite these, but Dan Bylsma’s magic will have a hard time making up for missing bodies like Crosby, Staal, Neal, Letang, and others.

The Pens are one hurting team right now and with the streak the Sens are on, they have a chance to take advantage of the flightless ones. Not to mention they have a truckload of confidence at the moment.

It’s easy to look at a team like Pittsburgh with half their players in full body casts and conclude that Ottawa should be able to go on a care-free romp tonight. Probably won’t happen. Ottawa’s on a roll and should take this one but they’ll hustle for it.
