Ottawa Senators (16-21-6) at New York Islanders (13-21-7)

The Senators are overdue for a win and the Islanders are way overdue for a handful of losses. While Ottawa’s offensive struggles and shoddy performance against the Boston Bruins last time out are worrisome, the team might benefit from an injection of youth and some new faces around the dressing room. At this point the Senators are playing for pride — let’s see how much they have.

After the Boston Massacre I swore I’d never pick this team again this year, but tonight I’m pulling for the kid Lehner to win his debut NHL start.

I love the story angle of Robin Lehner winning his NHL debut. However, after being inside the rink in Boston for Tuesday’s debacle, it’s hard to predict which Ottawa team will show up. And the Islanders have been playing a little bit better in the past three weeks.

It’s interesting that TSN is covering the game tonight. Maybe Pierre McGuire can read his cover letter during the first period intermission.

This is a big game for the boys. If they have any hopes of catching the Isles and falling back of them in the lottery pick race, they need to go full tank and really screw this one up. I think they are up for it! I BELIEVE!

Once in a while, the Senators rally around the goaltender backing them up to earn themselves a surprising and efficient victory. For the Sens to win, it will have to be efficient, but if there are any teams they might be able to beat, the Islanders are among them.

The Islanders are playing good hockey lately while the doom is just starting to truly settle in for the Senators. Once the pressure is finally off, the Senators will start playing loose like the Isles are and winning more games. But that’s still a few weeks away.
