Philadelphia Flyers (24-11-4) at Ottawa Senators (21-15-6)

The Flyers appear to be hitting their stride, and there’s a strong possibility that Alex Auld could start this game. Going on the information I have, I have to go with the Flyers again.

Going in blind here, didn’t see Saturday game because of a minor hockey tourney in Toronto, but knowing how hard it is to sweep weekend series I’ll try the home team.

The Sens deserved a better fate on Saturday in Philadelphia. I have a feeling they get the bounces — and maybe the refs’ calls — at home.

In light of picking both the Saturday and Sunday games on the Friday, I’ll stick with my tradition of playing it safe. Although a split seems likely, I’d rather get one of two picks wrong than two (if I incorrectly guess the order of how the teams will split the games).

I said yesterday that I don’t see either team sweeping this 2 game set. I’m sticking to it.

Saturday’s game was probably closer than many expected, and it seems like a safe bet to say Ottawa feels like they deserve better for their efforts. Expect the team to play with a lot of intensity on home ice.

These Sens sure are a surprising bunch. The even managed to win the last game while not playing very well at all. They have Anderson to thank for that. But this is Philly, not Tampa. They will be in very tough not to get swept in this back to back series this weekend. The Flyers are not unbeatable but Anderson will have to steal these games too if they are to have a chance.

The NHL should schedule more of these back-to-backs with the same two teams. It’s like a mini-playoff series in the middle of the season and creates a little buzz in the dog days of the schedule. The Sens will bounce back after a tough OT loss on Saturday and there should be some built-in nastiness along the way.
