Toronto Maple Leafs (13-19-4) at Ottawa Senators (16-18-5)

Here’s a game where I would almost automatically take the Senators. They’re playing at home against an inferior opponent, which should lead to two points, right? Not this season. While the Senators have surprised us by knocking off the likes of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Predators in Nashville lately, the supposed easy games are never easy. The Leafs always play them hard and, given Ottawa was in Columbus last night, I’ll give the Buds the edge here.

Maybe the sight of the blue and white can rouse the Sens from their deep sleep. Or not.

The Sens might be struggling, but the Leafs are in worse shape. I like the way Ottawa fought back in Columbus, but at some point, moral victories won’t be enough. They need to start getting two points.

With a returning Grabovski and Kessel heating up again, it saddens me to say that on paper, it looks like the Leafs have more offensive fire power. Ah well, at least the Montreal Canadiens are struggling. That’s a bit cathartic.

If the Senators lose this game, Eugene Melnyk is going to lose his mind. The players do not want that to happen. The coaches do not want that to happen. The front office staff do not want that to happen. Let’s not tempt fate, then.

Timing seems to be right for a wild affair in the Battle of Ontario. For the most part, both teams are playing for pride at this point. We know the Leaf fans will win the battle in the stands and that should carry over onto the ice. Hockey Night In Canada against the Leafs is pretty much a guaranteed loss for the boys in black and red.
