Ottawa Senators (1-0-1) at L.A. Kings (1-2-0)

The Kings are pretty heavily favoured in this one, but I feel like it’s closer to a coin flip if Jason Spezza plays. The fact he might not is leading me to take L.A. in this spot.

Tough building, grumpy hosts.

I have a feeling most on this panel are taking the Kings. It’s too early to have any real read on either team … although Professor Scanlan probably has some ridiculous rationale that will run his win streak to 13.

As enticing as it would be to pick the Sens without knowing whether they’ll have Jason Spezza in the lineup, I’ll take the Kings — a team that Ottawa has historically had trouble against (only 7 wins in 25 games played versus LA).

Even though the Sens went out a day early this will still be a tough adjustment.  Ottawa will be facing an excellent team looking to rebound from a home loss to the Rangers. I also think Quick is the best goalie in the world. He’ll bounce back from letting in one if the worst goals you’ll ever see.

Jonathan Quick isn’t a happy camper right now, so I’m guessing he’ll treat this as a statement game. Since neither of Ottawa’s top offensive producers (Spezza and Karlsson) look quite right, I’m pretty cynical about the Sens’ chances tonight.

L.A. looks more than a little wobbly to start the season so Ottawa has a chance to steal two points on the road here. Maybe some familiar surroundings will give Bobby Ryan a little puck luck tonight. And hopefully I can stay awake to see it.

Given the uncertainty surrounding Jason Spezza’s groin, the Sens might have to start the western road trip without their captain (although they should be significantly experienced in that department by now). If the Senators want to have any hope at winning, they’ll have to exploit Jonathan Quick’s weakness early and often, which is apparently shots from centre ice. The Sens are well-rested, but well-rested doesn’t count for anything at this point in the season. The Kings take this one by a hair.
