The Capitals again? Yep, and I don’t see a change in the outcome of this one either. While I thought their win over the Senators on Saturday might be the catalyst for a turnaround, they followed up with another loss, this time to the Florida Panthers. Let’s give this another try, shall we?

The Caps eked one out against Ottawa Saturday, but like Tampa they’ve been lousy on the road (four wins) and don’t seem to know yet what kind of team they’re going to be under Dale Hunter. I’ll go with a hot Senators team on home ice.

I felt like the Caps would beat the Sens on Saturday in Washington. I’m not sure the same thing happens in the return engagement.

I love watching Capitals games specifically because of the ice-time that Carlsson and Karlsson inevitably get. My money’s on Washington’s skilled Russians breaking out while Ottawa’s skilled Russian watches from the pressbox.

Getting passed by Mendes is like getting picked last for street hockey. Call me Albert. I’m going outside the box for this one. I assigned a team to two objects and asked my one-year-old to pick. She chose the ball. Go Sens.

I am getting smoked here in these prediction panels, mostly by picking against the Senators. So I’ll go with Ottawa tonight, and expect Alexander Semin to do one of two things: Dress for the game and smoke the Senators (as the historical Sens killer has been known to do), or dress for the game and do nothing before finally being traded or waived.

I’m going to go against my gut here and take Ottawa. They’ve had two close calls against the struggling Caps this year so maybe this time they pull it out.

Who’d have guessed Ottawa would be ahead of Washington in the standings nearing Christmas? Instead of Dale Hunter giving them new life, he’s just shackled them with more defensive responsibilities. Meanwhile, the Sens are whistling along like a happy crew.
