Buffalo Sabres (10-13-3) at Ottawa Senators (11-14-1)

Against my better judgment, I took the Senators to beat the Sharks last game. The thinking behind that was: ‘If there’s any game they’ll get up for this season, this is it.’ That theory went out the window pretty quickly, as the Senators continued their stretch of uninspired play with another loss. Had they shown an ounce of passion in the last 40 minutes of that game, I would have taken them here against a Buffalo squad they usually beat. Until they turn things around, however, I’ll go with the opposition.
Record: 13-13

There aren’t many teams left that provide the Senators any sense of psychological advantage – but there’s always Buffalo! Sabres play Friday night to boot.

The only thing I’m basing this on is Ottawa’s good track record against Buffalo. I wouldn’t expect offensive miracles from the Sens, but this team should have enough firepower to win over a Sabres team that played on Friday night.

Under normal circumstances, I would be pretty concerned. Ottawa is coming off the sobering loss in Dany Heatley’s return and in their last nine games, the Senators have scored at a Nick Foligno’esque pace. However, from all accounts, the Senators were pretty loose at practice on Friday and whenever Ottawa finds itself in a desperate need of points, they inevitably wind up playing the Buffalo Sabres on the schedule. They’re like the cure to whatever ails the Senators.

No reason to pick this team to win right now. they just don’t seem to believe in themselves so neither do I, even against the Slugs whom they always seem to beat.
Record: 12-14

A rare Senators win? If it’s going to happen, it will be against a team the Senators have been pretty strong against for the last few seasons: The Buffalo Sabres. So far this season, the Senators haven’t had that many extended losing streaks, they’ve just masked the damage their losses have done by winning one game and then losing two (or three) before winning another.

The Senators already have a couple of three-game losing streaks under their belts, and tonight will clinch their third. It just seems to be the pattern they go through. Watch for them to go on a tear starting next week against Montreal, but for now, it’s gloomsville.
Record: 16-10
Exact scores predicted: 2
