Ottawa Senators (10-9-2) at Pittsburgh Penguins (12-6-3)

The Senators had a surprising week, earning points in all three games of a western Canadian swing. They could really turn some heads if they were to continue that run back in Pittsburgh against the Penguins and a rejuvenated Sidney Crosby. I just don’t see it happening. The Pens were a strong team BEFORE the best player in the world returned to the lineup.

Sid may be too exhausted to dazzle by Friday after all the buildup and his initial two games, but Pittsburgh should be a tough night for the Sens.

This is a tough one to call. Ottawa has been playing so well lately, but this quirky four-day break in the middle of a road trip might disrupt their rhythm. The Pens were lucky to escape with a single point on Wednesday night against St. Louis, so look for a much better effort against Ottawa.

Sid and the Penguins will serve notice to the Senators and remind everyone in the nation’s capital why the Senators should stay the course and refrain from making some short-sighted trade that forsakes the future to help them get into the postseason now.
Record: 16-5
Exact scores predicted: 1

Crosby’s angry with the way he played against St. Louis. You wouldn’t like it when Crosby’s angry, neither will the Sens.

The Penguins lost on Wednesday, and won’t want to lose a second in a row. Sidney Crosby might win it single-handedly.

I wouldn’t have picked Ottawa in this one even without the Bib back in the lineup. This could get ugly.
Record: 17-4

Watching Crosby’s return performance reminded me of the Gretzky story where in practice he flipped a puck in the air past a D-man and then batted it into the top corner in one effortless motion. The rest of the Oilers went silent and actually became a little depressed because it was so incredible. Not to be too melodramatic, but the Pens are going to be unstoppable for a while.
