New York Rangers (7-3-3) at Ottawa Senators (7-7-1)

Senators 1, Rangers 2
Well, we’re getting into mid-November, which means a couple of things. Some of the surprising teams in the early-going (Ottawa, Toronto, Colorado, etc.) are falling in line with expectations, while the talented underachievers (Boston, San Jose and the Rangers) are putting the pedal down. New York’s current surge, coupled with bad memories from the last outing between these two teams, should add up to a win for the Blueshirts.

Rangers are hot, Sens are not. I know that can turn around in a single game, but Ottawa will need something special to beat the Rangers twice in a little more than a week.

Call me crazy. Call me bold. Just call me anything other than Steve Lloyd.

It seems like this will be season of riding hot and cold streaks. Ottawa’s entering this one having lost three in a row and the Rangers haven’t lost since the last time these two teams met on October 29th.

Since blowing a three goal lead with 12 minutes to play to lose to Sens on October 29th, the Rangers are 4-0. The Sens are 1-2-1. I went 0-3 last week to creep closer to the Mendes-oz-a Line. I’m rattled…so, Rangers take it 3-1?

New York has won four in a row since losing to the Sens last month, and Ottawa has lost three of four since beating the Rags. I expect Lundqvist to start, and I expect him to frustrate Senators shooters all night long.

Strategy 1:The Rangers are red hot right now. The Sens are not. And you may have noticed, since Alfie has been out, things haven’t gone quite as well. Is this game un-winnable for Ottawa? No, but I’m still not planning on the two points. There may be a loss or two more for the boys before they get back in the winner’s circle. Strategy 2: Who’s Mendes picking? Go the other way.

This is the kind of game you didn’t have circled on the calendar before the season, but it’s a can’t-miss now. I get the feeling we’ll be hearing Chris Neil’s name a lot tonight. Get the smelling salts and the ice bags ready.
