Boston Bruins (5-2-0) at Ottawa Senators (4-5-1)

One of my favourite things in the world is to listen to Tim Thomas explain why he plays so well in Ottawa. One year, it’s the lighting at Scotiabank Place. The next, it’s the crisp Canadian air outside his hotel. Whatever the reason, he’s dominant here and Claude Julien would be foolish not to start him. I think he’ll play, and he’ll win.
Record: 4-6

This will test the depth of the Senators’ rebound. Maybe they’re ready for the big, bad Bruins. An early break could be big, but Tim Thomas and pals are in sync.
Record: 7-3

How good has Tim Thomas been this season? He just joined Tiny Thompson as the only goalies in Boston franchise history to start a season with five straight wins. (I’ve been waiting 12 months to make a Tiny Thompson reference in this space and I wasn’t going to let it pass.) Thomas is once again the NHL’s best goalie and he will definitely be the scariest masked man the Sens see on Halloween weekend.

Just as the Senators start to string some wins together, notorious Senators killer Tim Thomas arrives in town.

The Sens should be able to keep their hard-working ways going forward into their game against the Bruins, but I don’t think it will be enough to counter the hex Tim Thomas seems to have against them. We’ll see how it goes, obviously, but I don’t think the streak of dominance Thomas has going will end tonight.
Record: 6-4

Ah, the classic Ryan Shannon vs. Zdeno Chara matchup. I said it was going to be a good week for the Senators, so I’m sticking to it, even if it means I risk looking foolish for picking against Tim Thomas. But his story is so good that something needs to go wrong soon, right? Plus, you got to think the Sens are due to win a game on HNIC after being embarrassed three weekends in a row.
Record: 7-3
Exact scores predicted: 2
