Post-game quotes

See what the Senators had to say after their Game 4 win.

Kyle Turris

Scoring such a big goal in front of 20,000 fans:

“It’s a big change of emotion that’s for sure. I am very thankful for the opportunity I have here and to be a part of this team. Anyone could have scored in overtime I was just lucky to get the shot off.”

“It was a great play. It was kind of a long shift in our zone; the minute I got it I was actually thinking about changing and saw it was a 2 on 2. I had to cut over, and (O’Brien) made a great drop pass and I just tried to use the defenceman as a screen and get it in the net.”

Rallying behind the fact they won in overtime in New York:

“We were excited and confident in our group. We have so much character in the room. We were really excited and comfortable.”

The play of Craig Anderson:

“He has stood on his head all year for us. We definitely wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for him.”

“It was huge. They give us so much energy and so much excitement when they get loud and into the game. It adds an extra element to the game.”

Craig Anderson

After going down by two early:

“We had to hit the reset button. It’s like one of those things when you’re a kid and you’re playing Nintendo. You have a bad start to the game, you turn it off and turn it back on, and try to go back at it again. Mentally we had to do that. We had to hit the reset button and get ourselves back in the game.”

Penalty kill:

“Their powerplay was clicking right off the bat. They got a couple quick ones, but we settled down and figured out our jobs and how to do them well. That was a big key for us later in the game was we killed off a lot of penalties and that gave us an opportunity to win.”

Rallying behind their overtime win in New York:

“It was the same speech as usual. There was a lot of talk about doing the little things right.”

Jason Spezza

Going down by two early and never quitting:

“That’s the resilience we have shown all year. We showed it again tonight, we got down two and we didn’t lose our composure and we played really good hockey after that. That’s the way we’ve played all year, getting big goals from different guys.”

On Staal hit:

“You guys saw it. I tried to cut back on him and he kind of got all head. It was just a stinger and luckily it wasn’t worst.”

Never led at any point during this series but still tied at two:

“Well it shows the resiliency of our team. It shows we are working really hard. We are getting a lot of chances, they are blocking a lot, but we keep coming and coming. Obviously we would like to play with a lead but our never quit attitude has gotten us to where we are now.”

The play of Kyle Turris:

“Turris has been great for us. Ever since he’s been here he has given us that extra depth in the middle, which is valuable in this league. He has a heck of a shot. We are in a good spot now and are excited to be in this.”

Turning point of the game:

“I think we got on our toes a little bit once we realized we had to score some goals. We got down a couple and maybe it was a blessing because we played much more offensively after that. As the game went on we created more chances and forced their guy to make some saves.”

Matt Carkner

Enforcer turned playmaker:

“It was great to get back into the lineup. Obviously we stuck together the whole way through and we knew we were going to get a goal we just didn’t know when. It was great to see Turris, my roommate, put it shelf.”

Come back after being down by two:

“We were killing a lot of penalties tonight. We got down two quick but the way were are in here you stick together. We talk to each other and said just stick with it we are going to get our chances one at a time. Anderson did a great job stopping the puck too and giving us the chance to win.”

When you were on that 2 on 1 did you have any thoughts of shooting?

“At first I didn’t know who it was going down but I figured I wasn’t going to beat my guy, he was coming back pretty quick. I just threw a pass over to Milan and he’s a great player and he put it in the back of the net.”

Crowds reaction to that goal:

“It was huge. That’s momentum in the playoffs. The crowd was great, they roaring after that and the guys got some energy on the bench.”
