Happy for the game I guess but I signed on to Just Drop It – not planning on watching / following for a while. Definitely not going to a game this season, including playoffs. A message needs to be sent. Btw, for the record, I love hockey. At the end of last season I was considering ticket package with the Sens, so glad I didn’t purchase.

I may watch the games on TV, since I’m already paying for the channels anyways, but I won’t be going to any games or purchasing any murchandise.

I am no longer interested in NHL hockey. I have watched games in person and on television since the early 1950′s. However hockey has changed so much over the years that it is now a business, not a sport. Even though I was a season ticket holder for several years in Ottawa and Montreal, have no desire to watch games in person or on televion. This year I became interested in soccer/football, especially as played in the European games. There, the level of skill and sportsmanship that is much higher than the thuggery that we see when we watch our professional hockey leagues. It’s no wonder that soccer is the most popular sport in the world.

Being a british citizen and resident, not to mention a hockey fan(!) I share a lot of your frustrations over the lockout, albeit from a distance. I will be watching once our meagre coverage over here starts up again in a week or so.
However, to William Bowness who comments about european football… I think the view from Canada must be somewhat rose tinted! The english Premiership, at least, is nothing but a business. Full of overpaid primadonna’s who on the face of it are more interested in the trappings (cars/girls etc.) that come with a £150,000 per week salary than in playing football. Their behaviour is frequently abhorent off the field and they are dubious role models in my opinion. On the field they frequently resort to feigning injury in order to gain advantage. I am not a soccer watcher, let alone lover, and would far rather watch either rugby or hockey, real sport played by real sportsmen!

I admit that my knowledge of the politics of soccer/football in Britain and the rest of Europe is limited. From your comments, it appears that I WAS looking at Premier League football through rose-coloured glasses. It seems that nearly all professional sports are tainted. Fortunately there are other forms of entertainment. Instead of attending hockey games, I enjoy live theatre and symphony concerts. That has the added benefit of keeping my wife happy.
