    I think that a 3-year contract at $9.25M is way too much for this aging defenceman and with a poor record for this season. I’m not surprized however, given Murray’s habit of overpaying most of the players he signs. Just look back.

      I disagree. He’s only 32, he’s not aging. He’s still in his prime. Gonchar was overpaying for an aging defenceman. Remember, Phillips took a paycut when he signed the last contract, now he’s taken another paycut. Look at the crap you get for $3mil these days, he did Ottawa a big favour.

    Overpaid in term and in NTC. Money-wise slightly overpaid.

    Honestly, I’d rather have traded him for a pick and re-sign him for this amount in the offseason.

    Not at all. Pillips would be a solid top 4 defenceman on any team in the nhl, and that’s what they get or even more. 32 is not old, and Big Rig is both rugged and a leader. I think the Sens would have liked to have dumped Kuba, a huge wimp, which I’m sure disappointed Murray and his vision for the future.
