Mat Cooke knew very well who he was checking into the boards , first with a knee to the back of Karlsson’s right leg and then the skate to the back of Karlsson’s left leg. C’mon is there anyone out there that has seen a player lift one leg while checking someone against the boards ? Show me the video. It is an attempt to injure and Cooke should be suspended for at least 25 games. Mat Cooke is a journey man thug. His previous record speaks for itself. I am waiting to see what the NHL does about this despicable act. What kind of hockey league would allow the truly gifted players to be injured by the thugs? What would there be left to watch?

It looked deliberate. Cooke already had Karlsson tied up, then lifted his (Cooke’s) skate well above the ice. What was his skate doing where it was? Aaron Ward is usually a good commentator, but he lost a lot of points when he gave Cooke a free pass on this.
Ward told you what Cooke was doing. He was corralling Karlson with his knee. Their videos show that it is routinely done
I do not follow hockey very closely, but on occasion, I will watch parts of games. In this incident, it is strictly a uncontrolled result of a meaningful check, with an unfortunate result. The checker, Cooke, cannot be singled out as being on a mission to intentionally injure anyone. Now with that said, Ottawa must have one of the only remaining ‘goons’ in the league in Chris Neal. You want to single out someone who plays with intent to injure, or try to provoke someone, you have the guy.
You guys are totally right. Everything Cooke has ever done is on purpose and of course everyone has full control of their body every minute of every game. The fact that 43% think it was on purpose goes to show the stupidity of some Senators fans.
