Exhale Ottawa Senators fans. General manager Bryan Murray is done trading your top prospects this season.

Murray, who already dealt blue chip puck-moving prospect David Rundblad to the Phoenix Coyotes for Kyle Turris earlier this season, told ESPN last night he isn’t interested in making any more trades involving Ottawa’s best youngsters.

While he has been shopping around for another forward, the current asking price is too high.

“I’m not doing that, I can tell you that,” he told ESPN’s Pierre Lebrun. “I’m not looking for a short-term fix.” (full story here)

And that’s probably for the best. While the Senators have surprised many and, if current trends hold, should qualify for the playoffs, they aren’t yet a serious Stanley Cup contender.

Better to enjoy their surprising good fortune and build a sustainable winner in years to come.

I actually liked one person’s idea of Nash for Foligno, this year’s first round pick, a conditional choice next year, Pumpel or Noesen and Wiercoch. Fits within cap, Nash and Spezza have terrific chemistry, add Michalek to that line.
