Lightning, Panthers to join Senators in new conference next season

The NHL will move from a two-conference to a four-conference alignment next season, which will see the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning joining the soon-to-be-former members of the Northeast Division.

The NHL will move from a two-conference to a four-conference alignment next season, which will see the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning joining the soon-to-be-former members of the Northeast Division.

The playoffs will start with two rounds played out within the conference.

According to multiple reports, here’s how NHL teams will line up next season:

1) Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Buffalo, Florida, Tampa

2) Carolina, New Jersey, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington

3) Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Minnesota, Nashville, Columbus, Winnipeg

4) Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Colorado, San Jose, Los Angeles, Anaheim, Phoenix

    Obviously made for US tv (again). The New York teams should be in group “1″, the Florida teams in group “2″. What in hell do the Florida teams have in common with group “1″?????? As it is, group “1″ is on both sides of group “2″ – Bettman logic I guess.
