Latendresse makes his return

The good news for the Ottawa Senators is that Guillaume Latendresse will finally be back in the lineup Monday against the Boston Bruins, after missing the past 18 games with migraines and whiplash-related problems.

After missing the past 18 games with migraines and whiplash-related problems, Guillaume Latendresse will finally be back in the lineup Monday against the Boston Bruins.

Judging by the lines at Monday morning’s skate, it appears that Latendresse will slide into Milan Michalek’s spot on left wing, alongside centre Zack Smith and right-winger Daniel Alfredsson.

Considering the injury cloud which has hung over the team all season long, MacLean joked that he hoped Latendresse would be able to last the entire game.

“We just want him to come in and be himself,” MacLean said of Latendresse, who has one assist in six games this season. “Guillaume has worked really hard with the migraines and the whiplash he has had. He has really done a good job in the gym of getting himself ready to go, so he’s certainly going to bring us energy. When he plays well, he’s a player that goes to the net. He has good hands and hangs around the net. The expectation was that he was going to be a top 6 forward for us when we signed him as a free agent and that expectation hasn’t changed.

“But we also know that he’s coming in in the middle of the season and we’ll have to tolerate some stuff along the way, but we’re excited to have him back.”

The other change up front sees Peter Regin, without a point in six games since returning from his chest injury, take a seat while Kaspars Daugavins returns.

Robin Lehner, who stopped 33 of 35 shots in Friday’s 3-2 win over New York, will start his second straight game in goal for the Senators. There was no update Monday on the status of No. 1 netminder Craig Anderson, who has missed the past seven games with a sprained ankle.
