Karlsson trailing badly in moustache grow-off

BOSTON – In a competition with Zenon Konopka and Carkner to see who can grow the best moustache during November to raise funds for men’s health, Erik Karlsson might need the whole month just to grow a shadow. Though he’s had a bit of a head start, it’s still sparse.
Asked who he was picking to win, coach Paul MacLean, who sports the standard, couldn’t resist joking: “Well, Karlsson is definitely the dark horse.”
But Karlsson is taking it all in good humour.
“No. it’s not very good but we’ll have to wait a week or two for me,” he said,
“Konopka’s going pretty well so far, I think, and (Carkner’s) looking good, too.
“It’s just going to take time, and hopefully we can see it on TV, not just in close.”
Karlsson said there are no side bets among the three players.
“No, I wouldn’t have a chance of beating those guys. I’m just doing it for a good cause.”
