Jokerit enters Karlsson sweepstakes

Erik Karlsson isn’t heading back to Sweden for the NHL lockout just yet.

Karlsson’s agent, Craig Oster, confirmed Tuesday that Jokerit of the Finnish League “is one of several teams to express interest” in the Senators’ Norris Trophy winning defenceman. Karlsson is a good friend of former Senators pest Jarkko Ruutu, who plays for Jokerit.

Just last Friday, though, Karlsson said returning home to Frolunda, his former Swedish team, seemed like the best option. The one possible hiccup was the cost of insuring Karlsson and his seven-year, $45.5 million contract with the Senators.

Stay tuned.
