Bad boys make it to the top

Relax, Senators fans. Not everything is bad news.
A pair of Senators players are actually at the top of the NHL in one category.
According to the Bleacher Report, Jarkko Ruutu ranks second and Chris Neil third on the NHL’s list of most hated players — trailing everyone’s most hated villain, Sean Avery of the New York Rangers.
While Avery made the most headlines for his vulgar public comments about his former girlfriend, Ruutu is cited for his endless on-ice banter. Well, that, and biting the finger of former Buffalo Sabres tough guy Andrew Peters.
Neil, meanwhile, is criticized for his border line hits to the head of opponents, but there’s a backhanded compliment attached to his name because “his hits may be frowned upon, but the intensity he plays with every shift gets under people’s skin.”
Neil, incidentally, reached a milestone of sorts in Monday’s ugly 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He picked up 21 penalty minutes, pushing him over the 1,500 mark for his career. He now has 1,501.
