Gryba suspended two games for Eller hit

MONTREAL – Eric Gryba is paying the price for his controversial hit on Lars Eller of the Montreal Canadiens in the opening game of the best of seven series Thursday.
NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan handed Gryba a two-game suspension, meaning he’s not eligible to return until Game 4 of the series Tuesday at Scotiabank Place.
Patrick Wiercioch is expected to take Gryba’s spot in the lineup for Game 2 Friday here at the Bell Centre.
While the hit resulted in serious injuries to Eller – he suffered a concussion and facial fractures and was taken off the ice on a stretcher before going to the hospital – many NHL insiders believed there was nothing illegal about the hit. The general consensus is that Eller was put in a vulnerable position due to a “suicide pass” from teammate Raphael Diaz and that Gryba simply stepped up to make the type of hit he has been taught to deliver. Replays show that Gryba made contact with Eller’s lower body first.

Was Eric Gryba's hit on Lars Eller dirty?
