Ottawa Senators defenceman Erik Karlsson will be packing his bags for Sochi, Russia, after being named to Sweden’s Olympic hockey team Tuesday morning.

Karlsson, a former Norris Trophy winner who currently leads the Senators in scoring with 10 goals and 29 assists in 44 games, will join a defence corps that includes Alexander Edler, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Jonathan Ericsson, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Niklas Kronwall, Johnny Oduya and Henrik Tallinder.

Up front, former Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson got the call despite not being invited to Sweden’s Olympic camp in the summertime.

And Jakob Silfverberg, traded to the Anaheim Ducks in the package that brought Bobby Ryan to the capital, also made the cut after a strong start to the season that was eventually marred by a broken hand suffered in a game against the Senators.

Senators Swedes Robin Lehner and Mika Zibanejad were left off the roster.
