Turns out Daniel Alfredsson’s No. 11 will be retired a little earlier than expected.

Alfredsson’s new team, the Detroit Red Wings, re-signed free agent Daniel Cleary Friday, which created a bit of a jersey jam. Cleary has always worn No. 11 in the Motor City.

Rather than offer to buy the number from Cleary — as often happens when big-name players change teams — Alfredsson will leave his old number in his old city.
