Cunneyworth back in NHL

Randy Cunneyworth is renewing the relationship he forged with Jacques Martin during their Ottawa Senators days together.

Cunneyworth, who served as a Senators captain during Martin’s days as head coach of the Senators, has been hired as as assistant with the Montreal Canadiens, working under head coach Martin. The Canadiens also hired Randy Ladouceur as an assistant. Montreal lost former assistant Kirk Muller, who is now serving as head coach of the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League.

Cunneyworth, who has previously served as as assistant coach with the Atlanta Thrashers, was head coach of the NHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs — Montreal’s AHL affiliate — last season.

The Pittsburgh Penguins also announced that former Senators goaltender Mike Bales has been hired as a goaltending coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
