Culek trying to make a final impression

The long playoff run by the Rimouski Oceanic in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs is iproviding Ottawa Senators prospect Jakub Culek with another chance to make an impression on the organization.

Pierre Dorion, the Senators director of player personnel told The Team 1200 on Monday that he will be taking another look at Culek this week. Rimouski trails St.John’s 2-0 in the best of seven QMJHL final.

Culek, 6-3 and 188 pounds, was selected 76th overall in the 2010 entry draft, but if the Senators don’t sign him before June 1, he’s no longer their property. Culek, a defensive centre, has scored four goals and five assists in 19 playoff games, but Dorion said “he’s matched up against top lines in a defensive role and has shown he can play on both sides of the puck.”

Culek scored 13 goals and 27 assists in 55 regular season games.
